Senior Flexonics Pathway Takes on the Largest Ever FCC Expansion Joint Order

In the late 90s Reliance built a world class refinery in Jamnagar rated at 650,000 BPD including the world’s largest FCC with a dual train PRT to recapture power. Senior Flexonics Pathway supplied all the expansion joints for the PRT through Bechtel.

In 2001 that refinery produced 1/3 of the refined product consumed in India. The sustaining downstream activity generated by the Reliance refinery represented 1/6 of the Indian economy in 2001.

The success of the Jamnagar refinery resulted in the push to double its size in 2007 including the worlds largest ever FCC rated at 180,000 BPD which included the largest ever dual train PRT system rated at 38,900 horsepower per turbine.

For the new FCC Senior Flexonics Pathway is honored to have been chosen once again by Bechtel to supply all of the expansion joints for the process lines and the PRT system.

The expansion joint order for the new Reliance refinery is large and complex by any means of measurement. The sizes range from 108” Dia. Cold wall flue gas lines, 70” Dia. Standpipes for the process lines to 66” Dia. heavy wall alloy expansion joints for the PRT lines. The total weight of the fabrications exceeds 1,200,000 pounds.

This project required the engineering and project management skills of one company. Yet the fabrication and shipping schedule was beyond the capability of most. Only Senior Flexonics Pathway met the challenge.

Senior Flexonics Pathway possesses the most extensive engineering and project management resource and worldwide fabrication capability in the expansion joint business. The Reliance project will be built at SFP’s facilities and joint partners in India, The United Kingdom, Brazil, Canada and the United States.
