Passive Red Tops
With Red Top Indicator, Provides Early Warning Detection of Bellows Leakage
Passive Red Top
Red Top pops up if positive media pressure leaks
through inner ply causing pressure to build up between
the plies. It does not register attachment weld failure.
Standard Features:
a) Outer ply is tapped to attach a Red Top or other
pressure sensing device that can register leakage of
the inner ply.
b) Each ply is designed for the full system pressure
and temperature.
c) Bleed valve to eliminate any trapped gases that could
result in a false reading during start up.
d) Flow test port to guarantee bellows is ply testable.
Benefits
1. Early warning leak detection.
2. Two bellows allow for 100% redundancy.
3. System can function while a convenient fi x can be
arranged.
4. Minimizes potential downtime in high risk service,
where bellows failure could cause an outage (FCCU,
turbine crossovers).
Senior Flexonics Pathway’s Red Top early warning
indicator is mounted directly on a two-ply testable bellows.
Each ply is designed for the full system pressure
and temperature. The two bellows plies provide 100%
redundancy.
In the “Passive” Red Top Design, the Red Top is activated
by the pressure of the media if a failure of the
inner ply occurs. The activating pressure for the “Passive”
Red Top is 5 psig. If a leak occurs in the inner ply
of the bellows, the red post pops up into view. It can
easily be seen from 50 feet away during a routine pipe
inspection.
By using a ply testable bellows, with or without a Red
Top, preparations can then be made for an orderly,
scheduled shutdown while a replacement expansion
joint is on order. The Red Top minimizes potential
downtime in high risk service where a bellows failure
could cause an unscheduled outage.
